About Us
Join the DEGENERATES
for fresh partying, new themes,
and all in the name of House music!
Degenerates
was originally formed in 2001 by DJ Jo Devious to promote the backbone
of the London scene, ie. the often not heard of, but definitely danced
to, underground House DJ's!
Jo Devious has always loved to help
organise good parties! The original crew will remember partying hard
with Bigshots Promotions... which goes way back to 1990 with the
"Napsbury" parties, hosted by Darren ST (then known as DJ Ability) with
support from Jo, Jutt and Peter Dee plus guest DJ's (and friends back
in the day) "The Corporation" (aka Vinyl Junkie and DJ C) and "Steve
Kotey".
There were also the "Funkt Up" boat parties, "Onwards"
at the Dome bar (now Beduin bar), and "Calling" at Club 13, all
instigated by Bigshots promotions, who's roster even included the likes
of Jim "Kutta" Slim of Source Direct (successful dnb regime -
occasionally converted to house musica by da original crew ;o)
... as well as Jo's (birthday) collaborations with Mark1 & Richie G with "Sizla" at the Lazy Toad.
When
Bigshots took up a residency with Smartie Party at Turnmills, Jo took
to the helm and started concentrating on her own promotion, Degenerates
with parties at the "Million-Hare", and the infamously messy "Wine
Cellar" do's ;o)
Jo then took some time out from being
DEGENERATE and spent a few years being the first UK rep for
shejay.net, working with Boston born Kellilicious in raising the
profile of Shejay and its members through interviews and reviews, and
also by co-promoting some all female lineup parties with "Fordshouse
promotions", most notably, "Shejay meets BIG" with Candice McKenzie
headlining and also, "BIG Girls!" which featured some of Londons most
prominent female DJ's, including, LadyT, Jolie, AnnaB, Dominique
Danielle, Landlady, Jo Devious and VibrantC.
Already working
under the watchful eye of a well established promoter, DJ Gerrad of
"FUN Muzik" (formerly Mums the Word) gave Jo the opportunity to
co-promote "BEATDOWN" at the Brixton Telegraph, where she learned more
about successfully promoting HOUSE MUSIC in larger scale venues.
Jo
then took two years out from the house music scene (to accommodate the
birth of her second son), and has returned, more focused than ever, not
only with the infamous SMITTEN parties, but also as a DJ who now feels
comfortable with her humble yet positive offering to the universe and
it's people...
SMITTEN's resident DJ's are JO DEVIOUS, GERRAD, DALE HAYES
and ANDY CRUISE, who between them compliment one-another's style and
take you on a funk fuelled journey through deep, soulful and jackin'
west coast house, each giving the music enough freedom to create it's
own natural twists, bends and curiosities... which will always leave
you WANTING MORE!
